A consultation and laser test are essential before starting a laser hair removal session. It allows your therapist to set up the laser according to your skin and hair type, to give you a quote for the areas you wish to remove, and to explain the precautions to take before and after each session.
Prepare your session
Recommended number of sessions : from 5 sessions
Session duration : 30-75 min
Interval between sessions : 6 weeks
How does a laser hair removal session work?
1. Initial consultation
Each treatment begins with a personalised consultation at one of our centres.
We analyse your skin, hair growth and expectations in order to define a customised protocol (number of sessions, areas to be treated, precautions to be taken).
For this initial consultation, it is important to keep your hair intact so that the laser therapist can assess it properly. This consultation is usually followed by a test to ensure that the correct settings are chosen and to determine whether or not you need to apply an anaesthetic cream beforehand.
2. Before the session
- Shave the area to be treated 24 to 48 hours beforehand.
- Avoid any exposure to the sun in the 6 weeks prior to treatment (this includes solariums and self-tanning products).
- Do not wear thick black trousers that could run, at least 48 hours beforehand.
3. During the session
You are wearing safety goggles.
The practitioner passes the laser over the area to be treated; the tingling sensation is mild and perfectly tolerable – especially if you apply an anaesthetic cream one hour before treatment.
Le integrated cooling system protects the skin and makes the treatment virtually painless.
4. After the session
-
- Application of a soothing cream.
- Slight redness may occur for a few hours.
- Immediate resumption of activities.
- Sun protection recommended.
- Spacing of 5 to 7 weeks between sessions. It is important, especially at the beginning, to be consistent with the intervals. This ensures faster and longer-lasting results.

Frequently asked questions about laser hair removal
Is laser hair removal really permanent?
Laser hair removal is considered permanent because it destroys the hair follicle at the root, preventing any lasting regrowth. According to the experts at Forever Institut, after a complete protocol of 7 to 10 sessions, the reduction in hair reaches 90 to 95 %. Only a few fine hairs may reappear after several months, particularly in the case of hormonal variations. An annual maintenance session may be recommended to maintain optimum results. Forever Institut clinics in Geneva and Nyon have been practising laser hair removal for over 25 years using Lutronic Clarity medical lasers.
Is laser hair removal painful?
No. Thanks to the built-in cooling system of the Lutronic Clarity lasers used at Forever Institut, the session is virtually painless. The sensation felt is at most a slight tingling, comparable to a rubber band snapped against the skin. For more sensitive areas - bikini line, face, armpits - an anaesthetic cream can be applied one hour before the treatment. Comfort is guaranteed for all phototypes, including darker skins.
How many sessions are required?
On average, 7 to 10 sessions are needed to eliminate 90 to 95 % of hair. This number varies according to several factors: the area treated (underarms generally require fewer sessions than full legs), the density and colour of the hair, the skin phototype and the patient's age. Sessions are spaced 5 to 7 weeks apart to respect the growth cycle of the hair follicle. At Forever Institut in Geneva and Nyon, the exact protocol is defined during the initial consultation, after a personalised analysis of hair and skin type.
Can you have a session on tanned skin?
No. A tan is an absolute contraindication to laser hair removal. When the skin is tanned, the cutaneous melanin absorbs part of the laser energy intended for the hair follicle, significantly increasing the risk of burning and depigmentation. The doctors at Forever Institut recommend avoiding exposure to the sun, solarium or any self-tanning products for 6 weeks prior to the session. In the event of involuntary tanning, the session should be postponed to ensure the safety of the treatment.
On which areas can laser treatment be performed?
Laser hair removal treats all areas of the face and body, including the most sensitive. At Forever Institut, the areas most commonly treated are: upper lip, chin and neck (face), underarms, arms, torso, stomach, back and neck (body), classic, low-cut or full bikini line, full or half legs. The laser is also indicated for men wishing to treat the back, chest or beard. Thanks to Lutronic's Clarity lasers combining Alexandrite and Nd:YAG, all phototypes can be safely treated, from very fair to dark skin.
What are the expected results?
From the very first session, Forever Institut patients notice a reduction in ingrown hairs and a finer hair texture. After 2 to 3 sessions, the reduction in hair growth becomes significant. At the end of the entire protocol - generally 7 to 10 sessions - the skin is smooth and soft, with a 90 to 95 % reduction in treated hair. The results are long-lasting, as the laser permanently destroys the hair follicle. Annual follow-up can be suggested for the few fine hairs that may reappear.
Are there any contraindications?
In certain situations, laser hair removal should be postponed or avoided. Absolute contraindications include pregnancy, breast-feeding and recent tanning. Relative contraindications - requiring prior medical assessment - include taking photosensitising medication, certain auto-immune diseases and active skin lesions on the area to be treated. At Forever Institut, each new patient has a compulsory medical consultation before the first session, during which contraindications are assessed and the protocol adapted accordingly.
How long does a session last?
A laser hair removal session lasts between 15 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the area treated. An underarm session lasts around 15 minutes, while a full-leg session can last 45 to 60 minutes. At Forever Institut in Geneva and Nyon, no social eviction is necessary after the treatment: patients return to their normal activities immediately. Slight redness may appear in the hours following the session, but this disappears spontaneously. A soothing cream is applied at the end of the session.
