Naturally rested. Not frozen. Botulinum toxin type A is a protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, used in aesthetic medicine to temporarily relax the muscles responsible for expression lines. Its injection blocks nerve impulses to the targeted muscles, reducing forehead wrinkles, frown lines (glabella) and crow's feet, without necessarily freezing the forehead.

The effect is visible after 5 to 7 days and lasts an average of 3 to 5 months. In Forever Institut clinics (Geneva, Nyon and Lausanne), the treatment is carried out in 30 minutes by aesthetic doctors, who choose the right product for the patient.

What is botulinum toxin injection?

Botulinum toxin type A is a protein naturally produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In aesthetic medicine, its injection causes a temporary relaxation of the targeted muscles, visibly reducing expression lines.

The treatment is recognised and approved for glabellar wrinkles (frown lines), crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, platysma (neck wrinkles) and hyperhidrosis (excess perspiration). At Forever Institut, aesthetic doctors use products that are recognised and selected for their effectiveness and safety, according to each patient's profile.

With 30 years' expertise in aesthetic medicine in French-speaking Switzerland, Forever Institut applies a rigorous medical approach to botulinum injections: each treatment is preceded by a detailed morphological analysis and tailored to the specific facial features of each patient.

Areas treated: frown lines, forehead and crow's feet

Botulinum toxin is injected into the upper third of the face, where repeated muscular contractions of the muscles responsible for facial expressions end up creating permanent furrows. Three areas are treated in current practice:

Lion's wrinkles (glabella)

Vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows, linked to the corrugator and procerus muscles. Botulinum toxin injection for frown lines is the oldest clinically validated area - it is often the entry point for first-time patients.

Forehead wrinkles

Horizontal wrinkles that appear when the eyebrows are raised. At Forever Institut, we understand that muscular forces and movements are synergistic. So, to ensure a harmonious result, forehead wrinkles are considered to be «3 zones» because their treatment almost always includes the glabella and crow's feet.

Crow's feet (lateral canthal wrinkles)

Fan-shaped wrinkles that start at the outer corner of the eyes when smiling. Botulinum toxin injection for eye wrinkles is particularly appreciated for its natural result and discreet rejuvenating effect.

Forever Institut's doctors generally recommend the 3-zone treatment to obtain a harmonious result over the entire upper third of the face. The dosage and injection points are adapted to the anatomy, muscle tone and individual objectives of each patient.

Platysma (neck wrinkles)

Botulinum toxin can also be used to treat vertical neck wrinkles linked to the platysma muscle, often called «platysmal bands». Over time, this muscle becomes more visible and contributes to the appearance of a slack, marked neck. Botulinum toxin injections relax these muscle contractions, softening the vertical cords of the neck and redefining the oval of the face. The treatment offers a natural rejuvenating effect, with a visibly smoother, tighter neck and a better-defined jawline. Results appear gradually over a few days and generally last 3 to 4 months.

Results and duration of effect

The first effects of botulinum injections appear between the 5th and 7th day following treatment. The final results are visible between the 10th and 15th day. The effectiveness of the treatment is maintained for an average of 3 to 5 months, depending on the patient. Clinical trials document an average duration of around 3 months, but the effect often lasts slightly longer.

With repeated sessions, the targeted muscles gradually develop the habit of contracting less, which tends to prolong the interval between treatments. Forever Institut recommends around 3 sessions a year to maintain the benefits of the treatment.

One notable advantage: botulinum toxin injections also act preventively, limiting the worsening of expression lines before they crystallise in the tissues with age.

Safety, precautions and contraindications

Before the session

To minimise the risk of bruising, avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin and blood-thinning supplements (omega-3, turmeric, vitamin C) in the days leading up to your appointment. If you are taking anticoagulants, tell your doctor.

After the session

  • Avoid compressing (helmet, headband...) or massaging the injected area for 48 to 72 hours.
  • Avoid saunas, steam baths and strenuous sports during the hours following treatment.
  • Contact Forever Institut if skin reactions persist beyond 24 hours.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Allergy or hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin type A
  • Infection or inflammation of the skin near the injection site
  • Muscle disorders or neurological disease (myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, ALS)

Possible side effects

Undesirable effects are generally transient and not serious: localised redness or papules (disappearing in less than an hour), bruising (resolved within a week), headaches in the hours or days following the injection, a feeling of heaviness or slight asymmetry during the stabilisation period (2 weeks). These effects are not systematic and vary from one patient to another. In the event of asymmetry, a correction can be made at the follow-up appointment.

  • 1 zone

To target frown lines or crow's feet wrinkles.

If you only have one problem, this is the option we recommend.

  • 2 zones

For frown lines as well as Crow's feet wrinkles / For the forehead as well as the frown line.

NB: The forehead area is counted as "2 zones" because the treatment includes the area between the eyebrows to ensure a harmonious result.

  • 3 zones

To rejuvenate the entire upper third of the face: forehead, crow's feet and frown lines.

For a harmonious result, we generally recommend the 3-zone treatment.

Course of the botulinum injection session

Number of sessions : 1
Session duration : 30 minutes
Interval between sessions : 3 to 5 months

Prior medical consultation

Before any botulinum toxin injection, an in-depth discussion with the doctor helps to identify your expectations, assess your expression lines and select the product best suited to your profile. This consultation is the basis for a natural result.

Marking and injection

The aesthetic doctor assesses the dynamics of the face and precisely marks the injection points using a dermatological pencil. The injections are carried out with extremely fine micro-needles, making the treatment quick and uncomfortable. The session lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Post-treatment follow-up

A follow-up appointment is proposed 15 to 20 days after the session to check the result. This rigorous medical approach guarantees a balanced result and ensures patient satisfaction.

Frequently asked questions about botulinum toxin injections

What is botulinum toxin injection and how does it work on wrinkles?

Botulinum toxin injection is an aesthetic medical treatment that involves injecting type A botulinum toxin into the muscles responsible for expression lines. This protein temporarily blocks nerve impulses to the targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting and allowing the wrinkles to fade. At Forever Institut, in Geneva, Nyon and Lausanne, this treatment is carried out by doctors trained to inject precisely into forehead wrinkles, frown lines (between the eyebrows) and crow's feet (around the eyes). Botulinum toxin injections may also be indicated for other problems, such as excessive sweating. The effects appear from the first week and last for an average of 3 to 5 months.

How much does a botulinum toxin injection in Geneva at Forever Institut cost?

At Forever Institut in Geneva, Nyon and Lausanne, botulinum toxin injections start at CHF 300 for 1 area treated. A 2-zone treatment costs CHF 400 and a 3-zone treatment (forehead, frown lines and crow's feet) CHF 500. Special rates apply for treatments performed by Dr Polla, Dr Galatoire and Dr Mathez-Loïc. Prior medical consultation is recommended.

How long does a botulinum injection last?

According to the doctors at Forever Institut, the results of an injection of botulinum toxin last an average of 3 to 5 months, depending on the patient. This period varies according to metabolism, intensity of facial expressions and level of physical activity. To maintain the benefits of the treatment, Forever Institut recommends 2 to 3 sessions per year. With repeated injections, the muscles gradually develop the habit of contracting less, which tends to give botulinum toxin a preventive effect.

Is botulinum toxin injection painful?

Botulinum toxin injections are painless thanks to the use of extremely fine micro-needles. The procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes and does not require anaesthetic. Some patients experience a slight stinging sensation or slight pressure at the time of injection, without any major discomfort. If necessary, a topical anaesthetic can be applied before the session (charged at CHF 80). At Forever Institut, the experience and precision of the injecting doctors help to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

What are the possible side effects after a botulinum injection?

Following an injection of botulinum toxin, temporary side effects may occur that are not serious: redness and small swelling at the injection points (disappearing within an hour), bruising (resolved within a week), headaches in the hours following the session, or a slight sensation of heaviness in the forehead during the stabilisation period. Transient asymmetries may occur in the first two weeks, while the toxin stabilises. Forever Institut offers a free check-up at 15-20 days to adjust the result if necessary. In the event of a reaction lasting more than 24 hours, it is advisable to contact the clinic directly.

What are the contraindications to botulinum toxin injections?

Botulinum toxin injections are contraindicated in a number of situations: pregnancy and breast-feeding, known allergy or hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin type A, infection or active skin inflammation close to the area to be treated, and neurological muscle diseases (myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). At Forever Institut, each prior medical consultation enables us to identify these contraindications and adapt the treatment protocol to the patient's profile.

What is the difference between botulinum injections and hyaluronic acid injections?

Injections of botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid are two complementary injectable treatments, albeit with different mechanisms. Botulinum toxin acts on the muscles: it temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for expression lines (dynamic wrinkles) such as frown lines, crow's feet and forehead wrinkles. L': hyaluronic acid., is a filling product that restores volume and corrects static wrinkles (wrinkles present at rest) or hollows in the face. According to the experts at Forever Institut, the best results in facial rejuvenation are often obtained by combining the two approaches in a single session or in complementary sessions.

Can botulinum injections be given to areas of the body other than the face?

Yes. In addition to facial wrinkles, botulinum toxin is used in medicine to treat excessive sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis), with an average duration of effectiveness of 4 to 6 months - offered at CHF 790 by Forever Institut. Injections into the platysma muscle (along the neck) are also used to improve the cervical contour. These indications are carried out by Forever Institut's injection doctors in Geneva, Nyon and Lausanne, with the same rigour as for facial treatments.
