UV rays
UVA
UVB
UVB rays reach the epidermis and are responsible for sunburn. They stimulate the production of melanin, and therefore the appearance of a tan. They also alter the DNA in the skin's cells. Like UVAs, UVBs play a role in the formation of skin cancers.
