During hair removal by electrolysis, the hair follicle is coagulated over its entire length, if the hair shaft is still attached to the hair's matrix (observed during the hair's growth stage, known as the anagen stage). This action can therefore only be carried out on hairs in the anagen stage, hence the need for a number of sessions to eliminate all of the hairs on a given surface.
