Beauty spots are more or less deeply-seated clusters of cells called nevocytes. Rarely present at birth (congenital beauty spot), most beauty spots develop from the age of 3, increasing in number over the years and then decreasing with age. They can, but rarely, cause a cancer called melanoma. It is therefore important to monitor them and consult a dermatologist if you notice any change in colour, shape, contour, size, etc...
