Process of natural cell death - as opposed to necrosis. At the end of their natural cycle, cells disintegrate without leaving any cellular debris and therefore without creating an inflammatory response. Used sparingly, on low energy, pulsed dye lasers (Vbeam Perfecta) help to destroy dilated vessels (rosacea) via apoptosis of the vessel cell walls. This extremely gentle process of the body is also observed in cryolipolysis, a new technique that we use to painlessly eliminate excess fat cells.
